Not Every Crack Means the Same Thing

Crack severity cannot be judged reliably from width alone. Location, orientation, displacement, surrounding materials, changes over time, and related structural symptoms all matter.

Reasons to Get a Crack Evaluated

• The crack is widening or changing noticeably
• The two sides are displaced
• It follows a stair-step pattern through masonry
• It appears with floor slope, settlement, or sticking doors
• Water is entering through the crack
• You are unsure whether movement is ongoing

Document Before You Repair

Take clear dated photographs and note where the crack begins and ends. If the crack is only covered cosmetically before the underlying cause is understood, it can become harder to track what is happening.
